The AT at Rockfish Gap (Photos: Merlot)
The Rockfish to Reeds Blog was established as a gathering place, a community, for the section maintainers and volunteers who work on this 19.1 miles of Appalachian Trail. It's a place to share pictures of work trips (the monthly ones and individual trips to maintain sections), work trip reports from the trail supervisor, plus adventures and events that have the R to R section of AT as a common starting place. It's also a place where folks who want to know about trail maintenance can go to see what it is that we do and get a sense of what it takes to keep the AT "alive and well".
So far, in addition to work trip and crew reports, we've had a maintainer wedding, a photography link post (Konnarock Crew member who worked on the Humpback Relo), posts about our adventures at Presquile NWR, how those blazes get on all the trees, events last fall at the Humpback Visitor's Center, some 'critter' information, and news reports after natural disasters (the derecho and Sandy), plus other items relating to the maintainers, AT and R to R. Your participation in providing content is encouraged!!
My hope is that the Rockfish to Reeds Blog will also promote and encourage trail maintenance, and add to the enjoyment of our section of AT. The section pages with pictures and features/landmarks is something I've wanted to do for years and the blog has given me a place to do it. If you need a "mountain fix" and can't get out of town, then you can take a virtual hike on the trail section pages. Pictures of wildflowers and wildlife on the sections are welcome!
You are free to share the blog link with anyone you feel might be interested in the AT, trail maintenance, or our particular section of trail. I still have not listed it with the various search engines so you will need to have the 'url' to find the blog. Perhaps in the future, I'll list it, but at this point, it's still a work in progress. Update: R to R now has a Facebook Page .... find the link on the "RtoR on Facebook" tab at the top of the blog.
Thanks for visiting the Rockfish to Reeds Blog ... I hope you enjoy it and please come back often!!
