Work Trip Report - ODATC - May 18, 2013

Work Trip 5-18-2013 Crew (SY)

Hi All –

Hopefully, everyone is enjoying the long holiday weekend and the nice weather we’re having.  For the ten brave folks who attended last weekend’s work trip, the weather wasn’t as cooperative.  Take a look at the fog in the group photo.  That tells the story.  Even with the dreary conditions the group is still smiling!

Unfortunately, we do get dreary work trips, but, those days are a good opportunity to check out the trail to see how all the fabulous waterbars, check steps and other improvements are holding up.

Thank you so much to Fran and Jim for leading this crew.  I’m sorry I was unable to attend.

Thank you to Richard, Jenni and Stephen for walking the trail going north from Reed’s Gap, checking out the area for a kiosk that Stephen is working with ODATC and the Blue Ridge Parkway on constructing for his Eagle Scout project.  They did this in addition to some clipping along the way.

Fran, Theresa, and Steve ventured south from Dripping Rock doing clipping and removing small rocks.  Thanks team!

Chris, Craig and Ed Jr. went to remove Big Tree Jr. reported down near Bear Spring.  This tree is a walk-under being 6 feet above the trail.  After looking at conditions, it was decided that we’ll have to wait to remove the tree for safer conditions.  Thanks for doing the assessment!

Jim went south from Rockfish Gap to check out the improvements made in that area, mark more waterbars and do some trimming.  Thanks Jim.

Because of the conditions the crew called it an early day around 2:30 and some went to Devils Backbone for a late lunch.

A special thanks to our first time crew member on the AT....... Stephen.

Again, thanks to everyone for being troopers in the wet weather.  Hope the rain and fog didn’t put too much of a damper on your fun.  Let’s look forward to June bringing us a nicer day!

Take care,
