& Mountain Farm (BRP mp 5.8).

This weekend, according to meteorologists like Wxrisk.com, we're going to get some "brrrrrrrrrr!" weather, with temps early Sunday morning in the 40's. What great weather for getting out on the trail for hiking and backpacking! If you're looking for something to do that's "off trail", in Shenandoah National Park it's Wilderness Weekend Sept. 14 & 15, while on the Blue Ridge Parkway the Sunday event is a Harvest Festival with a harvest and craft theme that goes on all day at the Humpback Rocks Visitor's Center and Mountain Farm. The band Blue Mountain Sunrise will be performing from 2:00 - 4:00 (I called the Visitor's Center this morning and confirmed this info).

Reminder: Next Saturday (Sept. 21) is our work trip on the AT. This month, there will be a picnic following the work day at the Humpback Rocks Picnic Area. The deadline to sign up for the work trip is Wednesday, Sept. 18.

Meanwhile, back on the blogosphere this past week, I'm going to start with my very favorite 'share' on the R2R Facebook page, thanks to the Virginia Herpetological Society. Getting kids out into nature is one of the best things you can do, both for the kids and yourself, and the video they posted is proof positive ....the kids' comments and excitement while watching salamander eggs hatching is priceless. Enjoy!

Note: Did you know Bluemont, Virginia has it's own waltz? It's a beautiful piece of music .....

  • Warrior Hike

  • Konnarock Crew - How do you know when a project is difficult? When you have to clip into a safety rope to sidehill! Konnarock also called on some alumni to help with the difficult rock work and from the pictures, they're still up to the challenge.
