Big Tree Jr. - Still A Problem (Sec. 6)

Sometimes certain blowdowns are so big or complex, they get their own 'names'. In April 2012, we had "Big Tree" of A Surprise for the Sawyers (& Big Tree Bites the Dust!) fame. This year, it is Big Tree, Jr ..... not such an original name, but it certainly is worthy of the 'Jr.' title. On the May work trip, we had a scouting report of a huge tree down across the trail, but passable as hikers could walk under it. Well, it turns out we've seen this blowdown before, back in November of 2012 ..... here's what it looked like then:

 

Obviously, the tree is 'settling' and coming down. The sawyers are leaving it alone for now. Here's a video that shows BT Jr. on yesterday's work trip:

 

At some point in the future, BT Jr. will be an issue when it blocks the AT at which time, the sawyers will have a major job . We'll keep you posted on BT Jr.'s status.
